Engineering notes

By Tony Massau

In the boilershop work has been in progress on fitting the palm stays.

On the loco itself the top runners for the sliding cab side windows have been fitted. The pattern shop have made a prototype of a sliding side window which has been trial fitted. This slides back and forth satisfactorily which will enable the manufacture of the final versions to proceed.

It is proposed to fit the water tanks back on the loco for the time being. There are some pipe support brackets to weld on to the top and underside of the tanks which in turn will allow continuation of pipe runs, which has rather stalled with the tanks off.

The machining of the coupling rods is complete and the rods returned to Somers Forge for inspection.
