Welcome to the 82045 Locomotive Fund website. Practical Steam for the 21st Century.

News Update - May 2022

Engineering notes

Progress continues on the firebox work. The new steam dome for the boiler barrel had been manufactured in two sections and has since been to the workshop of the SVR's coded welder who has now completed the work to make the dome into one complete unit ready for fitting to the barrel.

Forging of the regulator rod has taken place.

More lubrication pipe runs have been made and temporarily attached to the running plates as sub assemblies and also continuing down into the inside of the main frames of the loco.

Machining of the cab window frames is in progress.

Chris Proudfoot

It is with great sadness that we have to report the death of Chris Proudfoot. This has come as a great shock to us all.

Chris became involved at the outset of our involvement with the 82045 project where his talents at writing were put to good effect with producing appeal leaflets and articles in the railway enthusiast press. It was his idea to try to gently persuade supporters to set up monthly standing order payments towards the 82045 new build locomotive, an idea that has helped enormously for the project to progress. His forward thinking resulted in the Future Fund designed to continue to attract finance towards future overhauls of our locomotive.

He was ever ready to talk to people at SVR gala events about 82045 and in the years when we worked together on the footplate he would willingly invite someone on to the footplate during a layover at the terminal stations for a chat and to put a couple of shovelfuls on the fire.

He will be greatly missed.

Tony Massau.
