Engineering notes

By Tony Massau

Whilst recent reports have focussed on work on the outer firebox considerable progress has been made on the inner firebox. This is now fitted into the outer firebox which in turn has led to the outer firebox throatplate being fitted. Reaming of stay holes through the backplate of the fireboxes has been in progress preparatory to fitting of stays. Some stay holes on the sides of the outer firebox are being marked out preparatory to drilling.

Work has continued on the fabrication of the firehole surround which includes the runners for the fire doors.

Brackets for the injector water cocks have been made and supports for the water cock handles bolted on to the cab side.

Lubrication pipework continues.

Attention has recently been diverted towards relocating our black tin shed which is moving to the opposite side of the boiler shop building closer to the works entrance. Our outdoor site where construction of 82045 began is really a part of the station environs and by relocating we will be more encompassed into the engineering area of the Bridgnorth site.
